Is it even possible to grow the size of my hands?

We can’t deny the fact that the actual size of your hands is limited because of the size of your bones. Bones grow till a certain period and stop after that.

No amount of stretching, squeezing, or strength training can increase the size of your bones to make them longer or wider. However, there’s still hope.

You cannot increase the size of your bones but what you can do is grow the muscles in your hands that will in turn increase the size of your hands.

Just like any other exercise, it is crucial to warm up beforehand. Before performing these hand exercises, soak your hands in warm water for a short while.

Another warm-up technique is wrapping your hands in a heated towel. This routine can also be quite helpful in reducing stiffness caused by arthritis or other musculoskeletal diseases.

How Often Should You Perform the Exercises to Get Bigger Hands?

Everything is good in moderation, these exercises too should not be done every day as you need to give your muscles some time to recover.

The following exercises should be done 2-3 times or 3-4 times per week.

Tips and Exercises on How To Get Bigger Hands:

1. Squeezing a Softball aka. Stressball

This first one is quite simple. All you have to do is buy a softball also known as a stressball and hold it in your palm.

While doing so, you have to squeeze it as hard as you can without it being painful. Repeat the process for 3-5 seconds and then release the ball. You can repeat this process on both hands, 10-12 times on each hand.

Another variation that you can bring into this routine is holding the ball between the fingers and thumb of one hand for almost 30 to 60 seconds.

Besides this exercise, you can also perform other exercises that require squeezing to increase your grip strength.

2. Making a Fist and Then Releasing

This exercise is also quite common for strengthening your hand muscles. Just make a fist by tightly wrapping your thumb on the outside of your fingers.

Keep your hand in this position for a minute and then open your fist. After doing so, spread your fingers as wide as you can for about 10 seconds. Repeat this process 3 to 5 times on each hand to achieve the desired results.

All you have to do is form a ball with some modeling clay and then roll it out. Working with clay will not only strengthens your hands but will also help you improve your fine motor skills.

4. Wrist Curls and Reverse Wrist Curls

Simply sit straight up with your feet flat on the floor while holding a dumbbell in one hand. You should start with a light dumbbell, 2-5 pounds works well for this exercise.

The next step is to rest that hand, palm up on your leg such that it’s extending right off the edge of the knee. While flexing your wrist up, bring the weight just above your knee.

Bend your wrist back, slowly, to the initial position. Repeat 2-3 sets of 10 repetitions on each hand. Repeat the same process with your hands facing downwards for reverse wrist curls.

If you prefer wrist curls using a barbell you can do that as well.

5. Using a Hand Gripper

Various models of hand grippers are easily available that offer different levels of resistance. You can purchase any, of your choice, that works well for you and is challenging enough as well.

All you need to do is squeeze the gripper until the handles touch one another and hold this position for at least 5 seconds and then release the tension.

Repeat this exercise with at least 2-3 sets of 6-8 repetitions per hand daily.

6. Using Elastic Bands

You don’t necessarily need to own any special equipment to train your hands for this exercise. All you need is a couple of elastic bands.

This exercise is as simple as it gets. Just take four elastic bands and place your fingers on the inside of the bands, with your palms positioned outwards.

Stretch the elastic bands while contracting your fingers, then release them slowly. If you place the index finger of your right hand at one end of the elastic band then put the index of the left hand to the other end and stretch.

Keep the rest of the elastic bands in the same position for the rest of your fingers. Repeat this for at least 8 to 10 times of 2 to 3 sets.

7. Finger push-ups

This exercise is comparatively tough and is more suitable for people who can easily perform intermediate-level workouts i.e someone who can do push-ups.

If you want to make your hands bigger and stronger, finger push-ups are a great way to achieve that. This exercise is fairly simple, as the name suggests.

For regular push-ups, a person places palms on the floor, but for finger push-ups, you have to put your fingertips on the floor instead of the palms. Make sure to spread your fingers evenly while performing this exercise to gain maximum support and balance.

It is recommended to perform 2-3 sets of this exercise with a total of 8-10 repetitions. If you’re a beginner, start off slow and gradually build up your strength.
