Men and women around the world have plenty of variations in their heights and this could be due to their ethnic background, their genes, or the part of the world they live in.

Regardless of the factors that determine their height, certain beauty standards involving some specific height, are set and followed religiously by people all around the world.

Stereotypes about Men and Women Heights

Many stereotypes also suggest that tall men are more desirable than average-sized males. Similarly, women with medium height are considered attractive in most countries, however, that may vary.

We cannot deny the fact that beauty is subjective. Everyone has their own perspective of beauty. However, beauty standards still hold a certain place in our society.

Men and Women Short Height Statistical and Survey Data

We gathered surveys from different sources to find out what height is considered short for men, and for women, in different regions of the world and what height is considered to be the most desirable.

There are many reasons why people care about their height. It’s been observed and commonly known that women usually like to go for tall men. Due to being attractive, they are able to attract desirable partners as well. Different studies also suggest that prioritize height while dating, whereas, men do not.

Another study suggested that the majority of the women preferred if their partner was 8 inches taller than them. Men were most content when they had a 3 inches height difference with their partner. Findings from a study about height and human mate choice also revealed that, on average, the shortest height desirable for a man to a woman is 5 feet 9 inches tall. On the other hand, the shortest woman a man would date is 5 feet 1 inch tall. Researchers also found out that 23% of men and 4% of women would accept a relationship where the woman was taller than their partner.

Another interesting finding from this study reported that women married to taller men had comparatively better health, lower BMIs, better education, and incomes as compared to women with shorter men as partners.

In a study, researchers investigated stereotypes about height. Participants were asked to imagine a short woman( 5’1 inches), a woman with average height( 5’4 inches), and a tall woman (5’10 inches). It was found out that average and tall women were found more desirable.

There was not much difference in the ratings between tall and average height women. The study also revealed that participants considered men with a height of 5’4” as less socially and physically attractive, less successful, and less confident, as compared to both average and tall men. Average and tall men were given similar ratings. However, participants ranked tall men as more athletic than the average, and short men.

This could be true for some, but, researchers found out that tall people make more money. Economists named it the “height premium” as they associated more height with fat paychecks.

Another study suggested that for both men and women, a 1-inch increase in height can have a relation with a 1.4–2.9 percent increase in the weekly income. Findings in another study also suggested that men, 6 feet tall and above, on average earn about $160,000 more, over a 30-year long career, as compared to men who are 5 feet 5 inches tall.

Another survey from Badoo, a popular dating app, suggested that 5’8 inches was the ideal height for men. Of the 20,000 Brits survey, the app revealed that the most preferred and right-swiped height for men was 5ft 8in and the most right-swiped height for women was 5ft 5in. These numbers, of course, are dependent on the country’s height statistics.

According to the Office of National Statistics, the average height of a man living in the UK – is 5ft 9in (175.3cm) and that of a woman is 5ft 3in (161.6cm). This means that men just below the national average are considered to be the most desirable, and women, who are slightly above the national average. It was also found out that the top three right-swiped heights for men were, 5ft 8inches, 5ft 10 inches, and 5 feet 6 inches. For women, the top three most right-swiped heights were 5 feet 3 inches, 5 ft 3 inches, and 5 feet 7 inches.
